This maybe old news to some, but it’s new to me 🙂
Hollywood has hijacked yet another one of my childhood memories – The Magic Roundabout. A new animated movie is due out soon retelling the tale of Doogal, a sugar addicted dog, an opera singing cow, a stoned bunny and a wacky wizard with a spring instead of legs. I guess it’s not quite as bad as some Hollywood remakes as it looks like it has the blessing of the original producers, and the animate character are virtually unchanged from the original stop motion figures I remember.
For those of you who are British and born in the 70’s or 80’s you’ll know what I’m talking about. For the uninitiated, this was simple BBC children’s series, shown as five minute episodes every teatime when I was a little kid. It was originally created in France, and there was over 500 episodes created. It was re-dubbed into English by Eric Thompson (Emma Thompson’s dad) and told the tail of Doogal and his friends.
I’ll almost certainly add this to my Netflix queue.
Time for bed children…
I SO remember this, though I’m not British – just spent time living there when I was a kid. Thanks for the blog article – I couldn’t for the life of me remember the show name. Oh well, at least they got some interesting voice actors….
Now if they would just do a US format release of Bagpuss….
Ooo! Bagpuss. A US format DVD would be great. I’ll have to go looking now to see if I can even find a UK DVD.
Did you know it was a French show? Most Brits people think it to be British, as do the French.
Yes, if you read my original write up it says “It was originally created in France”
