There’s quite a few paper craft R2’s out there, but this has got to be the best I’ve seen

They also have R2-C4, R2-M5, R2-A6 and other Star Wars / SCI-FI Paper Models

Lego Artoo’s

I’m always amazed what people can build from Lego. Here’s a bunch of Artoo’s I found on Flickr

This full size Artoo is from an FAO Schwartz store somewhere in the world

I’m pretty sure this one from Comic-Con 2007 is the same design

This one is from Lego Land in California. The dome rotates, it lights work and it makes the familiar R2 sounds

Then there’s the droid development kit from Lego. I still have one myself in a box that need to be built up one day.

There’s a bunch of new Galactic Hero’s in the way from Hasbro. My favorite has got to be Sail Barge R2 with Slave Leia

Artoo – Jedi in Training

R2 Building Update

In the last month I’ve made a lot of progress on my R2. Still hoping to get him running around to take to C4 at the end of May.

Own an R2-D2 Mailbox

Ok, so it might not be exactly a real full sized R2-D2 mailbox, but it’s as close as you’re gonna get without serving time.

Lucas Online has posted instructions on how you can build a cool papercraft 3-D model of the mailbox. All you need to do is print out the handy PDF they’ve made available and build your own droid.

USPS R2D2 – What’s inside?

Now that I have the new blog up and running I guess I should go back and post some recent news.

A few weeks ago USPS and Lucas rolled out 400 Artoo-Detoo post boxes all over the country. We’re lucky enough to have a few in the Bay Area and I found this one just off Union Square in San Francisco. It’s on the corner of Powell and Post across from the Disney store – You can’t miss it.

I got lucky and the USPS guy played along and allowed me to check the inside of the strange astromech. My picture was even featured on SW.com.

If you’ve found one in your neighborhood don’t forget to add yourself to the offical R2D2 Frapper Map.

Check out my other Star Wars Project – I’m building a full size R2-D2 Astromech. When done it should be fully functional with lots of gizmo’s. I’ve already sunk a small fortune into the parts. I’m going the aluminum route which can be very expensive.
